Native Instruments Traktor software has in part, been responsible for the resurrection of the turntable DJ, which we are all for here at the Young DJ Academy.

Utilising digital technology to allow DJ’s to play their digital files using time coded vinyl, the software has brought the attention back onto the turntable which was lagging behind new media like CDJ’s. Although the main attraction seems to be on the return to playing vinyl with Traktor, there are also options to use the software with CD Players or play music directly from a laptop.

If you have not seen the software in use, here’s a short snippet of DMC champions Qbert, Rafik & Shiftee showing what the software is capable of.

Traktor Scratch training is available at the Young DJ Academy, come over & see the software in action in our training centre.

During July we will run our usual DJ course on Saturdays but we are adding mid week summer camps to our timetable.

Training will include a full introduction to DJ’ing, access to rehearsal space & mentoring from academy trainers.

Cost is 199 Euros & that includes handouts & aftercare service.

Dale has been involved with the Young DJ Academy since he was 15 years old & his time with us has seen him learn to DJ, write & record rap tracks & perform at various events.

Dale became interested in music production in recent years & has been crafting his sound before he unleashes it upon us. He is currently working on edits of some of his favourite artists & is busy running his own club nights. Watch out for Dales productions which will be coming soon.

Roger Sanchez hails from Queens, New York & has been DJ’ing since the late 1980′s. Roger refuses to be pigeon holed into one genre or style of music but he gained world wide recognition for his “release yourself concept” which has developed into an award winning radio show as well as a clubbing concept & CD mix series.

The Awards ceremony & After party will take place in Dublin on the 3rd of June @ The Button Factory Temple Bar Dublin City, Doors 7pm (Awards will start at 7:30pm sharp) Then the After party will run till 3am.

The IYMA’s is an all inclusive music based project for 12 to 19 year olds, held across Ireland, including Northern Ireland, and greater Dublin area.

Engaging with over 15,000 kids at local level, the IYMA’s core aim is to give young musicians and those interested in working in the music business, the opportunity to develop their creative and collaborative skills and access the knowledge and advice of some of Ireland’s most respected music industry professionals, including Willie Kavanagh – EMI Records / Jackie Hayden – Hot Press Magazine / Liza Geddes – Friction PR / Alan Hennessey – Rapture Records / Will Ryan – Manager Ollie Cole / Mick Quinn Photography / Young DJ Academy / Liam McCormack RTE TV / and a host of special guest well known musicians.

The end goal of the participating regions is, through a unique combination of Live Performance, and back-room teamwork, to bring home The Irish Youth Music Award 2011. Along with the accolade of becoming the holders of the Irish Youth Music Awards 2011, all of the team members from the successful region will then get to record a fully professional album of their own material, produced and mixed by some of Ireland’s most experienced producers and engineers.

This year the Young DJ Academy will host a dj workshop at the awards & provide a recording facility for the bands to lay down a quick recording of their choice.
